Moving In

My boyfriend (2+ years) and I have been discussing getting an apartment together in May. Partially because of financial reasons (much cheaper to split $800 than to pay it all on my own), partially because we really want to live together. However, just because we want to live together, it doesn't mean we should. When I asked his best friend about it, he pretty much told me not to (although this might be due to his own shitty experience).

So I wonder. How do you really know if you're ready to move in with a significant other? Part of me wonders if we're individually and collaboratively mature. I also worry about the dreaded urban tale that tells us those couples who move in together end up splitting. However, I've seen co-habitating couples stay together and others break up.

Ultimately, I've come to the conclusion that really no one can tell me whether or not living with him is a good idea. I can't gauge the solution based on other people's experiences, because they've all had different results. However, what I can do is try to figure out if I am ready. And this is where I'm lost.

How do I know if my boyfriend and I are ready/not ready to live together?
